Senior Design Project
Friday May 20, 2005 @ 12:30am
My senior project at the University of Missouri - Rolla was to create an autonomous surveillance aircraft. I worked myself to death on this project and spent many many late nights in the Senior Design Lab. I really enjoyed working on the project though and I look forward to working on it even after graduation. If you would like to read more about the project, I have placed a website at http://www.nonec.com/aircraft/. I look forward to updating the website as I continue working on the project.
New Website Layout
Wednesday July 28, 2004 @ 12:05pm
Please pardon the website if it looks really messed up. I am in the middle of trying to redo my color scheme and layout. I am not that great at coming up with layouts.
PHP Online Savings Website
Saturday August 02, 2003 @ 2:33pm
I have created a seperate website for PHP Online Savings. It will keep an archive of all releases of the program. Check it out here.
Beta Version of PHP Online Savings
Saturday July 19, 2003 @ 2:45pm
I have uploaded what I have finished of the program. There are still a number of function that are not implemented yet, but accounts and transactions can be added. Transactions cannot be edited at this point however. PHP Online Savings(P.O.S.) is a web-based personal money management system. It is written in PHP and uses mySQL for storing data. P.O.S. runs on any operating system which supports a webserver, PHP4 and mySQL. The main goal of this project is to give me a means of tracking my finances while not being tied to a specific OS like I am with Gnucash and MSMoney. Only basic features have been added so far, but many more will be coming soon. Download the program from the Downloads page.
New Nonec Technologies Logo
Monday July 07, 2003 @ 2:30pm
I am looking to change the logo above that is surrounded by links. I am not that great of an artist though. Any help that I can get would be greatly appreciated and I will be sure that you get the credit for the logo. If you are interested, all I want is something about the size of what I already have. It needs to look good on the current website. I am partial to blue, white, and black, but anything that looks good will work. Email any logos to support at nonec.com.
PHP Online Savings
Thursday July 03, 2003 @ 12:30am
I have become tired of having to switch my money management software between 'Microsoft Money' and GnuCash every time I switch operating systems. I have starting working on my own web based money management system that I can run from a webserver on either OS. To check out the project, go to PHP Online Savings.
New Programs
Thursday June 26, 2003 @ 12:46am
I have a few PHP programs I started 2 or 3 years ago but never finished for one reason or another. I think that I am going to attempt to finish them this summer and put them on here for download. Some of them are programs I wrote just for my use: an online address book, and some of them are things I wrote while working at an ISP a few years back to try to make things run more smoothly: a tech support call logger, and a database to keep track of computers that were brought in for repair. I will try to get those programs uploaded as soon as I can.
Layered Webpage Advertisements
Thursday June 19, 2003 @ 11:56am
I am sure that everyone has come across the webpage advertisements that are implemented as a layer of the page and then minimize after a little while into the background. My only response to these is: WTF!!! They are the most annoying things I have seen yet on the web. TVguide.com and weather.com are two of the worst places for this I have found. Both of those sites are useful to me, but seeing how they are getting more and more annoying, I guess I am going to have to stop using them or any other site I find that has this type of advertiseing. Anyways, That is just my little rant after being bombarded by them for the last 5 minutes.
Problems With Mozilla
Tuesday June 17, 2003 @ 11:14am
If you are using Mozilla, you may notice that the items on my page are spaced a little weird. I have tried to make it look the same in Mozilla as it does in Konqueror and IE, but the way that I have to format things to accomplish that makes my headlines grabbers to the right look bad. I am going to keep looking into things and see if I can figure out how to make things look the same in all browsers while still looking how I want it.
Slashdot Headline Grabber Fixed
Monday June 16, 2003 @ 11:23pm
I have finally gotten around to fixing my slashdot headline grabber. I spent a long time looking for a complicated reason for the code not working. I noticed an 'if' statement at one point that looked a little strange, but I didn't think that it could be it because I didn't know why I would have ever changed it. Well, as usaully happens, it was that stupid clause that was causing my errors. I still have no idea how I delete just 1 character out of the line. Anyways, I am rambling now. So I will end now with simply saying: It is fixed.
GAIM for Windows
Sunday June 15, 2003 @ 8:29pm
When GAIM first came out with a port for Windows, I downloaded it as quickly as I could. Upon starting the program I was horrified that something that was so beautiful in Linux could look so horrible in Windows. I figured, oh well, I will just keep using Trillian for Windows and GAIM for Linux. About a month ago, I redownloaded GAIM for windows. I don't really remember why I decided to try it again. After finishing the install and starting GAIM up, I was completely blown away. It was the most impressive, aesthetically pleasing IM program I had ever seen. Needless to say, I am completely hooked on GAIM for both Windows and Linux from this point on. The developers have done a wonderful job and I thank them greatly for their efforts. If you want an all-in-one IM program, DOWLOAD GAIM. It blows Trillian out of the water.
This Website Now Uses Valid HTML
Wednesday May 21, 2003 @ 9:21am
I went through the site this morning and validated the HTML using http://validator.w3.org/. I had to change a few things and add things that I forgot. There may be 1 or 2 pages that I forgot to check, but for the most part, this site is now valid.
Messed Up Site
Wednesday May 21, 2003 @ 8:15am
I am currently reorganizing the code to my site, so some things may look messed up for a little while.
I NEED HELP!!!
Monday March 24, 2003 @ 5:51pm
I really hope that this gets the attention of someone who can help me. I am looking for an extremely small linux distro to run on a single-board 386 computer. What I need as a minimum is serial port communication for up to 4 ports plus the ability to access a hard drive formatted as FAT. If anyone has any suggestions, please send them to me by clicking on 'Contact Us' above. Thanks.
FM Radio Transmitter
Friday December 27, 2002 @ 3:41pm
I have been searching around on the internet trying to find out how to build simple circuits to send and receive radio signals. I have not had much luck. I may end up having to wait until I get back to school to find a good book on the subject.
Semester Project Webpage
Thursday December 12, 2002 @ 2:40pm
Here is a webpage I have put up for the light controller I was talking about.
Light Controller
Monday November 25, 2002 @ 10:54pm
Computer Engineering is so much fun!!! No, really, I mean that. I just got my lighting controller for my CompE 213 semester project working. It is a simple little project to use the AT89C1051 microcontroller to allow a user to turn lights on and off, to dim them, flash them, and fade them. There is also a serial link with a computer to allow commands to be sent to the controller. The link is the only thing that has not been tested yet. I just finished making the link cable tonight. I really hope it ends up working. I have some pictures of the project and will probably be posting a page about it soon.
This Is To Make Valerie Stop Complaining
Saturday October 26, 2002 @ 10:02pm
Hello again. I am posting this because one of my friends keeps complaining that I have not posted anything in over a month. So to make her happy, HERE IS A NEW POST!!! I hope that you are happy now Val. Anyways, nothing has really changed here in Rolla. I am still just working on the satellite and trudging through classes.
MR. SAT
Wednesday September 18, 2002 @ 11:24am
Wow, it has been a long time since I posted anything to this page. Well, school has started back and I have become bogged down in homework and other things. One of the projects I have become involved in this year is a satellite design project. The name of the satellite was determined last saturday to be MR. SAT for "Missouri Rolla SATellite." I was voting for A.T.O.M.S., but the current name works as well. I get to help design the computer system for the satellite. Needless to say, I am in way over my head. I think that with enough research I will be able to do it though, and we are currently learning how to program microcontrollers in CompE 213 right now. Anyways, I am out for now.
Less Than Two Weeks!!!
Tuesday August 06, 2002 @ 9:25pm
I am so happy. There are less than two weeks left until I start back to school. Yes, I am one of those odd people who actually enjoys classes. I have a lot of stuff to get done before then though. I am going to get my applications in early for the jobs I want next summer. My list of candidates are CIA, NSA, Los Alamos, Sandia, or Boeing. I mainly just have to get my resume updated. And then there is the cover letter, I HATE cover letters.
Life and Other Things
Tuesday July 30, 2002 @ 12:43am
I just noticed that I have posted more to this front page in the last month than I have since I created this website. The start of school is quickly approaching and I must say that I can't wait for it to begin. I am so eager to get back to all of my friends in Rolla. This summer has had its ups and downs, nothing that I can really complain about. Classes are going to be fun also. I get to finally begin my Aerospace Engineering classes. I am also looking forward to Digital Systems Design. I wonder how much I actually remember from my Introduction to CompE class. I am also going to attempt swing dance classes again. Maybe I will do better this year than last year. Oh, and if you haven't noticed. I have decided to start posting my thoughts about everything on the front page instead of only having site news.
Check Your Email
Friday July 26, 2002 @ 8:27am
If you want a place to check your email online, take a look at http://www.nonec.com/email. I will make the code for this available when I get the chance. The scripts are the first iteration of an email program I am attempting to create. The current version will not have any new things added since I am already starting on the next phase. Anyways, enjoy, and I will have the code available in a couple of days.
Finally Learning Perl
Thursday July 25, 2002 @ 11:54pm
I know I have talked about it before and not done it, but I am FINALLY learning how to program using Perl. It doesn't seem as bad as I thought it was going to be. The book that I am reading now does a really good job of explaining things. I hope that as I learn how to do things I can change some of my site from PHP to Perl, or at least get a few Perl scripts posted on my downloads page.
Things I Want to Promote
Wednesday July 24, 2002 @ 3:04pm
There are a couple of things that I have been really impressed with and would like to lend my promotion. The first is my webhosting service at www.phpwebhosting.com. For $9.95/month, I get 125MB of disk space plus more if I need it, all the bandwidth I could ever hope to use(unless I am slashdotted), unlimited email accounts, and unrestricted http://whatever.nonec.com subdomains. I have been really impressed with their service. My site is down for a few hours a month sometimes so that they can upgrade their systems or do other maintainance, but I am not going to complain about that. The other thing that I would like to promote is Openoffice.org. I found this program about a month ago and have since gone Microsoft Office free. I can open all of my Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and Powerpoint presentations with no problem at all. The best part about the whole thing is that OpenOffice.org is FREE and works the same on my Linux and Windows computers. That concludes my cheap promo, but hey, when you like something, why not help get the word out to others.
Slight Site Change
Friday July 19, 2002 @ 10:53am
I have noticed recently that my website looks really bad in most Linux browsers, including Opera and Konqueror. The main problem was that the text was too small to read. I have finally fixed that problem. If you notice anything else on the site that does not look correct, please let me know using the Contact Us page.
Nonec.com E-mail
Wednesday July 03, 2002 @ 9:54pm
I have decided that I am going to start a new project other than NIM. I am now trying to create a web based email client using PHP so that I can give email accounts to some of my friends. I hope that I can get this finished by the end of the summer.
Nonec's Instant Messenger (NIM)
Wednesday January 02, 2002 @ 10:01pm
What better thing to do over christmas break than get really bored and program an instant messenger. NIM in its current incarnation is lacking in just about every feature imaginable but it was made as a learning tool and also as a 'just to know I can do it' project. I am posting the source to this first attempt on my projects page so check it out if you want. It is written in Visual C++ 6.0 and shows how to use CSocket, RichEditCtrl, a few things with Dialog boxes. Enjoy.
Now Hosted at PHPWebhosting.com
Sunday December 16, 2001 @ 1:58pm
I have moved this site over to phpwebhosting.com. It is a really nice hosting service. I would still like to have this page running off of one of my own servers one of these days, but for right now I don't have an extra computer to setup where it can be accessed from anywhere.
Possible New Server
Saturday December 08, 2001 @ 10:23pm
I have narrowed it down to two choices for nonec.com's new server. I have a AMD-k6-2 475MHz desktop sitting here in my dorm that is being used as a file server at the moment. The local cable company, Fidelity, allows servers to be ran over it's network so I am thinking about setting the box up at a friends house and only having to pay the $5/month for the IP address. On the other hand, I have been told about a great webhosting serving at phpwebhosting.com. They give a great deal from hosting a site on their servers and it would save me the trouble of keeping my own running. I will probably decide which one to do over Christmas break.
We are finally back online
Friday November 09, 2001 @ 8:50am
Welcome back to Nonec Technologies. After being down for more than a month because of problems at our ISP we are now back and running strong. I am really hoping that my ISP is straightened out with their stuff now. It is really frustrating when the site goes down and I have no control over the situation. Soon I hope to get my own server to run this site off of, but until then...
Programming With Windows Sockets
Thursday June 07, 2001 @ 12:48am
I have finally started looking at programming using Windows sockets with Microsoft Foundation Classes. They don't seem like they are going to be to much of a headache. At least that is what I am hoping. If you would like to see what I want to use my new-found knowledge for then take a look at the Projects page. I hope to at least have something that can communicate over the internet ready in about a week. I don't plan on even trying to get the compatibilty with messenger clients implemented for a while though simply because I have a lot of documentation to look over first.
Summer Is Among Us
Tuesday May 22, 2001 @ 8:31pm
Ahh, the joys of my last summer break before having a job. It does feel really nice to be out of school and not have to worry about anything. I plan on working on a few projects while I am out. I don't know exactly what they will be yet, but we will see what happens. My ISP finally got its servers working correctly again. It looks like they restored a backup copy of their MySQL database since some of my post have been deleted. Oh well, hopefully they will not be down again for a while.
The Void: Sucking In Information From the Net
Friday January 12, 2001 @ 5:09am
A few friends of mine have helped me create a new news site called The Void. Click here to check it out. We are really excited to see what direction this thing will take!
New Site Design
Friday December 15, 2000 @ 9:30pm
Well, I have finally redesigned the look of Nonec Technologies. I hope that you like the new site layout. Please send any comments you may have by clicking on Contact Us.
Perl Programming
Monday November 27, 2000 @ 1:45pm
I have begun looking into programming with Perl the past couple of weeks. From what I have seen of the language, it does have its advantages over PHP. Look for Perl scripts on this site within the next few weeks. If you have any suggestions for a script then please let me know.
Problems with Slashdot Headlines
Wednesday October 25, 2000 @ 7:20am
I have received several reports of the Slashdot headline grabber not working correctly over the past few weeks. I have checked the code and it works great on my server which is running Windows 2000. I am looking into whether the code breaks on servers running Linux.
Headline Grabber Update
Saturday August 19, 2000 @ 12:03pm
I have finished updating the headline grabbers to fix a few bugs that have been found. The affected grabbers are for Freshmeat, Slashdot, Hotwired, and Gimpnews. I will be adding more grabbers soon so come back and check every now and then.
Moving to College
Sunday August 13, 2000 @ 8:17pm
I know that I said I would have updated versions of my headline grabbers ready soon but I have been packing and moving to college over the past week and things have been a little hectic. I will do my best to get the updated versions out soon. Thanks for your understanding.
Headline Grabber Bug Found
Saturday August 05, 2000 @ 8:41pm
I have found a slight bug in my headline grabber. The Freshmeat Headlines are the ones most affected by the problem. The scripts at present rely on the information being in specific spots and does not find the information. Unfortunately the Freshmeat file is not always the same which causes the links to be messed up. I hope to have a fixed script out by the end of the week!
